Program Outcomes / Goal
The goal of the diagnostic medical sonography Technology program at St. Johns River State College is to prepare competent entry-level sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains in the abdominal sonography – extended and vascular sonography. Graduates will be able to perform, at minimum, the following objectives:
Cognitive
- Accurately identify knowledge of abdominal structures, including the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, and kidneys for sonographic imaging.
- Demonstrate proficiency in vascular sonography by performing examinations that assess blood flow and vascular structures.
Psychomotor
- Produce high-quality sonographic images that clearly depict anatomical structures and abnormalities, ensuring accurate measurements and annotations are made.
- Demonstrate comprehensive technical proficiency in operating sonographic equipment, including setting up and adjusting the machine for optimal imaging.
Affective
- Effectively communicate sonographic findings to healthcare team members, including radiologists using precise medical terminology and demonstrating clear, concise verbal and written communication skills.
- Consistently demonstrate ethical behavior, patient confidentiality, and professionalism in various clinical settings, adhering to the standards and guidelines set forth by the sonography profession.
