SJR State - Dual Enrollment Baccalaureate Prerequisite Guide



Things to consider before choosing your Dual Enrollment prerequisites:

  • Which university do you plan to transfer to once you have completed your Associate in Arts degree (AA degree) with SJR State? By knowing which university you intend to transfer to, you can begin to look at that university’s different programs of study.
  • What is your intended major that you plan to study at your university of choice? Please review the list of possible major choices below, and the corresponding transfer choices.

Arts, Humanities, Communication, and Design (example careers: museum curator, public relations manager)

  • ARH 1000 - Art Appreciation (would also count toward the Humanities credit)
  • ARH 2050 - Art History I (would also count toward the Humanities credit)
  • ARH 2051 - Art History II (would also count toward the Humanities credit)
  • SPC 1608 - Fundamentals of Speech

Business (example careers: business operations manager, human resource manager)

  • GEB 1011 - Introduction to Business
  • CGS 1100 - Microcomputer Applications
  • ACG 2021C - Financial Accounting
  • ACG 2071 - Managerial Accounting

Education (example careers: teacher, director of education)

  • EDF 2005 - Introduction to the Teaching Profession
  • EDF 2085 - Introduction to Diversity for Educators
  • EME 2040 - Technology for Educators

Health Science/Social and Behavioral Science and Human Services (example careers: occupational therapist, healthcare administrator, nursing, mental health counselor, and social worker)

  • DEP 2004 - Human Growth and Development (would also count toward social science credit)
  • HSC 1004 - Professions of Caring
  • HUN 1201 - Human Nutrition
  • PSY 2012 - General Psychology (would also count toward the Social Science credit)
  • SYG 1000 - Introduction to Sociology (would also count toward the Social Science credit)
  • Math based on major
  • Science based on major

Public Safety and Criminal Justice (example careers: law enforcement officer, emergency management supervisor)

  • CCJ 1020 - Introduction to Criminal Justice
  • CJL 1062 - Constitutional Law
  • CJL 1100 - Criminal Law
  • DSC 1006 - Introduction to Homeland Security

STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (example careers: engineer, computer programmer)

  • CGS 1060 - Introduction to Computer Concepts
  • COP 1000 - Introduction to Computer Programming
  • COP 2220 - Programming in C
  • Math based on major
  • Science based on major

Each course listed above counts as a 0.5 high school elective credit or 3 college credit hours (ASL & SPN count as 4 college credit hours). The above list of courses also requires no prerequisite or set test score.

It is the dual enrollment student’s responsibility to ensure their choices transfer to their desired university and within their program of choice. SJR State cannot guarantee the courses listed above will be the perfect fit for each student, university, or program.
