Dual Enrollment
Principles of Participation
Dual enrollment students earn both high school and college credits, so understanding college expectations is essential. All students must read and follow the Principles of Participation and Student Responsibilities, which apply to all dual enrollment students, including those in public, private, charter, and homeschool programs.
Principles of Participation
- Communication: Students must address course issues directly with instructors and report any absences (illness, emergencies, etc.).
- FERPA: SJR State faculty cannot discuss student performance with anyone except the student, unless a release is signed.
- College Standards: Dual enrollment students must follow all SJR State policies, including the Student Catalog/Handbook, academic integrity, and discipline policies. High school activities are not considered excused absences.
- Academic Integrity: All work must be the student’s own. Plagiarism or using others' work without proper citation is prohibited.
- Appeals Process: Dual enrollment students have the same grade appeal and academic misconduct rights as other students.
- Grades: Students cannot retake courses with a grade of “C” or higher. Grades below "C" do not meet Gordon Rule requirements but are still included in GPA and on transcripts.
- Course Withdrawal: A “W” will appear on transcripts. After a withdrawal, students must petition to register for another course within the same term.
- Course Load: Students should consult advisors to ensure a manageable course load.
- Incomplete Grades: Incomplete grades must be resolved within 30 days, or they will convert to an "IF."
College Curriculum and Structure
- College courses maintain high academic standards, even if taught at a high school site. Material may include topics not typical in high school classes. Dual enrollment students are graded by the same standards as other college students.
- Dual enrollment students must complete New Student Orientation, which are available online.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Ensure accuracy of personal information (name, social security number, birthdate) when registering.
- Students are responsible for logging into MySJRState to access schedules, textbook information, grades, Canvas, and other resources.
- Textbook policies vary: public school students receive them through the school district, while private and homeschool students purchase them.
- All communication from the college is sent to the student’s SJR State email.
Eligibility and Participation
- Students must maintain a 3.0 high school GPA and a 2.0 college GPA to stay eligible.
- Excessive absences or disciplinary issues may result in losing dual enrollment eligibility.
- Petition Process: Students who receive a "W," "D," or "F" must complete a petition before registering for future courses. Only one petition is allowed per student.
