PARAMEDIC
College Credit Certificate
The entry level Paramedic program prepares students for careers in the Emergency Medical Services field. The program prepares students for certification as paramedics and adheres to the most current U.S. Department of Transportation National EMS Educational Standards for Paramedic. The limited access program consists of three consecutive semesters consisting of didactic, lab, clinical and field experiences.
Students will be trained in advanced skills required for emergency pre-hospital care. In addition to performing EMT-Basic Skills, they will be trained in IV fluids, medications, advanced life support, airway management, burns, trauma, adult and pediatric medical emergencies. Graduates are qualified to work as advanced care providers on ambulances, hospital emergency rooms, intensive care units and transport teams.

Program Length: Students with a state license can complete the program in three semesters when attending full time.
- Two year: Emergency Medical Services A.S. degree program
- Four years: Complete your A.S. degree and continue your education with SJR State’s Bachelor of Applied Science
degree in Organizational Management and a specialization in Health Care
Administration.

PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the St. Johns River State College paramedic program is to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.

The St. Johns River State College Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

Program Outcomes / Goal
Upon successful completion of the program the graduate will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the ability to understand and analyze clinical information for stabilizing and transporting acute and chronically ill patients.
2. Apply and perform correct emergency medical procedures upon patient assessment and effectively communicate results.
3. Apply critical thinking skills to recommend interventions based on patient response.
4. Develop technical skills in providing emergency care to patients in the pre-hospital setting.
5. Explain and recommend treatment for the emergency care patient in the pre-hospital setting.
