Streets cleaned and shelves stocked on Vikings Day of Service
“The best photo of the day is a photo of a kind heart.” - Amit Ray
Thanks to kind hearts at SJR State, the Vikings Spring into Service project was a huge success. SJR State employees were given two opportunities to engage in community service that would benefit the tri-counties the College serves.
The SJR State Highway Cleanup: Campus teams spent time picking up trash along the main public road near each SJR State campus. In Orange Park, Dr. John Etienne even came upon a large trash can along the roadside as trash.
The Viking Exchange Collection Drive: SJR State employees donated nonperishable food, school supplies, and other items needed by SJR State students. Through the College’s Viking Exchange program, which is available on each campus, all appropriate donated items will be distributed to our own students in need. Any items not well suited for distribution through the Exchange will be donated to a local food pantry.
So, the streets are clean and the shelves are stocked, thanks to our SJR State employees going out of their way and showing up as “the best photo of the day!” Way to go, Vikings!
“Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It’s important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It’s the way in which we ourselves grow and develop.” - Dorothy Height
