SJR State holds radiologic technology pinning ceremony

SJR State alumna and Flagler Hospital clinical preceptor Jessica Lewis presents Amanda Lindberg with the Daniel Maj Scholarship

St. Johns River State College faculty, administration and staff recently held a pinning ceremony to honor Radiologic Technology graduates. The students were each presented with a special pin during the ceremony, recognizing their accomplishments in completing the program and becoming eligible to join the profession of radiologic technologists.

Program director Christy Mauel, congratulated the 20th class to graduate from the program: Meranda Bailey, Allison Bridges, Maria Caro, Tiffany Dawson, Madison Gorsuch, Tatum Hale, Samantha Pena, Rachel Kondrk, Amanda Lindberg, James Mayo, Thu Phipps, Kaylin Smith, Taylor Thomas and Joy Tucker.

During the ceremony, Amanda Lindberg was presented with the Daniel Maj Scholarship. The scholarship was created to honor Maj, a former Flagler radiologic supervisor and SJR State alumnus who passed away in 2014. The scholarship is presented each year to the student who exhibits the highest performance scores.

The highest academic award went to Amanda Lindberg and Taylor Thomas. Madison Gorsuch was awarded for the most competencies completed. Samantha Pena was awarded for the highest clinical grade. The leadership award for the Radiology Club went to Amanda Lindberg and Thu Phipps.

Students awarded for earning straight A’s in the clinical education course were Meranda Ailey, Allison Bridges, Maria Caro, Tiffany Dawson, Madison Gorsuch, Tatum Hale, Samantha Pena, and Kaylin Smith.

The Associate in Science degree program prepares students for careers as radiologic technologists. Graduates will be eligible to take the National Certification Examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. ARRT certification is recognized throughout the country, and successful completion of the exam allows students to become licensed by the State of Florida to practice radiography.

SJR State’s Radiologic Technology program is offered on the St. Augustine campus. Specific prerequisites and requirements apply and must be completed prior to the first day of the application period.

SJR State offers additional health care programs such as medical assisting, practical nursing, emergency medical technician, paramedic, respiratory care, health information technology, the LPN bridge to ASN and more.
