SJR State Names Dean of Florida School of the Arts
St. Johns River State College has named long-time faculty member Emily Schafer Dean of Florida School of the Arts.
Schafer will transition from her current position, professor of Costume Design and Technology, where she designed costumes for 50 shows at Florida School of the Arts and numerous other programs in Arkansas, North Carolina, Tennessee and Florida. She has 17 years of experience in teaching and the theatre.
“Emily has been an emerging leader at the college and is well-regarded in the artistic community,” said SJR State President Joe Pickens. “She brings a wealth of experience, and we are extremely fortunate to have her moving into this role. Emily is a leader focused on student success and community partnership.”
Schafer holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Design and Technology from the University of Central Florida, and a Master of Fine Arts in Costume Design from the University of Tennessee.
“I am excited to continue my 12+ year career serving Florida School of the Arts and its students in my new role as Dean,” Schafer said. “I love this school and its impact on students and the community. I look forward to helping future generations find their artistic voices and purpose in the world.”
Schafer will begin leading Florida School of the Arts on May 1.
