FloArts alum Cullen Douglas to address graduates, aspiring actors

Florida School of the Arts announces alumnus Cullen Douglas as the 2024 commencement speaker. The ceremony is set for Friday, June 21 at 5 pm and will honor graduates receiving their associate degrees in the visual and performing arts.

Douglas, who attend FloArts in late 1980s, is perhaps most recognized as an actor, having most recently recurred on HBO’s Barry, in addition to appearing last season on ABC’s Station 19, Showtime’s I Love That For You and NBC’s Magnum PI and Quantum Leap. Fan-favorite appearances include recurring roles on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, CBS's Pure Genius, and ABC's Scandal, as well as turns on True Blood, Prison Break, Deadwood, Twin Peaks: The Return, Grey's Anatomy, and Steven Spielberg's anthology series Amazing Stories.

Prior to graduation, Douglas will present an open forum – A Conversation with Cullen Douglas - on Thursday, June 20 from 10:00 – 11:30 am for anyone interested in the performing arts field. This informal Q&A, moderated by FloArts acting professor Kevin Kelly, is open to the public and will include a look at the 35-year career of the, actor, writer, director, and producer. Additionally, Cullen will take questions from the audience with the hope of sharing insight into the entertainment industry, as well as best practices for all artists, regardless of the medium or discipline. Reservations are not required.

Florida School of the Arts is part of the academic and administrative structure of SJR State and awards the two-year associate degree in the following areas of study: visual art, stage management, dance performance, theater technology, acting and musical theater. The School serves the entire state of Florida. Admission is based on an audition or portfolio review, an interview with the faculty and admission to SJR State. FloArts is located on the St. Johns River State College Palatka Campus.
