SJR State corrections cadets recognized
Cadets from the St. Johns River State College Criminal Justice Academy were recently recognized for completing the Florida Corrections Officer program. The graduates include Jaime Amaya, Cassandra Johnson and Nathaniel Martinez.
During the ceremony, Nathaniel Martinez was recognized for special achievement, receiving the awards for Highest Academic Achiever and Most Proficient in Firearms.
The guest speaker was Joseph Bucci, Director, Detention Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
The invocation and national anthem was presented by Sergeant Russell Burns, St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
The Florida Corrections Officer Academy career certificate program provides job-related training to prepare candidates for entry-level employment as corrections officers. The curriculum is prescribed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission in accordance with Florida Statutes. Upon completion of the program, candidates will be eligible to take the state exam for corrections officer. The certificates also provide credits that can be transferred to SJR State’s associate in science degree in criminal justice technology.
Applications for the January 2025 Florida Law Enforcement Academy day and night classes will be available online in September.
Applications for the new Bachelor of Science In Criminal Justice, Applied Intelligence Studies and the Associate in Science in Paralegal Studies are available online. Classes begin in August.
