The essence of the 'Falling Into Motion' is an exploration of momentum - embracing its fluidity, weight and transformative power.
Florida School of the Arts presents “Falling Into Motion,” a choreography dance concert. The show runs November 22-24, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with 2:30 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday on the main stage theatre at the St. Johns River State College Palatka Campus. Admission is $10. Tickets can be purchased online in advance or at the box office one hour before showtime.
The production celebrates the creativity of student choreographers. The essence of the show is an exploration of momentum - embracing its fluidity, weight and transformative power. According to dance instructor Jessica Mayhew-Borrero, through movement, we capture a stage in time where transition and change are at the forefront. “Through a diverse range of dance styles, viewers will enjoy and resonate with the artforms of contemporary dance, street jazz, tap, and ballet,” she said. “This production highlights the artistry of student choreographers, who submit their works to an adjudication panel consisting of guest artists and FloArts faculty. Selected pieces are showcased in the choreography concert, allowing students to experience a professional creative process.”
Under the mentorship of directors and dance faculty, Andrea Montez and Jessica Mayhew-Borrero, students gain hands-on experience with essential production elements, such as lighting, costume, and sound design.
In addition to the student pieces, the concert will feature guest artist and faculty choreography. Guest artist, Maycee Dominguez, a respected dance educator at The Dance Company of Ocala, director of The Dance Collective and choreographer at the Ocala Civic Theater, set an original work on a cast of 13 students. Dominguez crafted a high-energy piece that embodies the performers' drive, confidence, and ambition.
Student choreographers include: Autumn Airey, Alexis Brockway, Kaylee Cravey, Brandall Kearse, Ian Leduc, Makari Nealy, E. Noah Perez, and Caleb Urbistondo.
The full cast of dancers includes Flo Arts dance majors, musical theatre majors and acting majors.
