Putnam County Commissioners declared June 11, 2024 as Lady Vikings Champions Day.

Surrounded by board members, faculty, administration and staff - head softball coach Joe Pound, assistant coach Britney Purser, and SJR State President Joe Pickens were presented with a proclamation for returning home as the World Series Champions.

WHEREAS, The St. Johns River State College Lady Vikings have achieved the remarkable feat of winning the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Softball Championship,

WHEREAS, Entering the tournament as the #9 seed, the Lady Vikings secured the championship with an impressive five-game winning streak,

WHEREAS, The Lady Vikings concluded the season with an outstanding record of 55 wins and 79 home runs, earning the NJCAA title on their first-ever trip to the tournament in school history,

WHEREAS, In addition to this incredible victory, Coach Joe Pound was honored as the FCSAA DII Coach of the Year. Sophomore center fielder/shortstop Kendall Catherwood received the Player of the Year award. Jenny Bouthillier, Caylee Elder, Carolyn Lasater, Olivia Hansen, Alyssa Vallad, and Princess Arredondo were all named to the first team, while Pitcher Brooke Strickland made the second team,

WHEREAS, Putnam County commends the Lady Vikings for their exceptional teamwork, athleticism, and sportsmanship in the sport of softball,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Putnam County Board of Commissioners that June 11, 2024, is declared “Lady Vikings Champions Day” in Putnam County, and all citizens are encouraged to participate in recognizing the hard work and dedication of the Lady Vikings.
