A recommendation letter is part of most scholarship applications. Donors want to get to know the student’s character, other than his or her grades and test scores. Because they usually don’t have the opportunity to meet the student in person, recommendation letters are very important. Usually, students ask a teacher, counselor, or another person in their school for a recommendation letter. The purpose of a letter of recommendation is to express a student’s accomplishments and their potential to succeed in the future.

Here are some tips for writing your autobiography:

• Tell us about yourself!
• Include details about your strengths and weaknesses when discussing your personal characteristics.
• Give details about the activities in which you are involved.
• Describe how and where you have demonstrated your leadership ability, such as in the classroom, in clubs, during sporting events or even within your family or circle of friends.
• Focus on your ability to be a positive role model and how you will contribute to society when discussing why you should receive the scholarship.

Your application will enter the review process after the scholarship deadline. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and reviews continue throughout the Summer and Spring. We will not provide students with status updates or decisions until all applications have been reviewed. You may be asked for additional documents, but that is not an indication of whether you will be awarded a scholarship.
