Brittney Student Spotlight

WHAT INSPIRED YOUR INTEREST IN MEDICAL ASSISTING?
I enjoy helping people and being hands-on in the workplace. Many people don't realize it, but medical assistants are the foundation of a doctor’s office. They keep things in check as the office runs throughout the day. "I want to be able to say I made a difference in someone's life, even though it may be small."

WHY DID YOU SELECT SJR STATE FOR YOUR TRAINING?
I selected SJR State for this training because it’s close to where I live and it's affordable. I also think SJR State is an awesome school to be part of because it offers so many resources for you to succeed.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR TRAINING AT SJR STATE?
The thing I like most about my training at SJR State is how hands-on the program is. I also love how personable the instructors are, and if you're stuck on something, they have no hesitation with helping you get through it. If you're feeling unsure about yourself, the instructors are there to help instill the confidence that you need. Additionally, I love the college experience on campus!

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE MOST CHALLENGING ABOUT THE MEDICAL ASSISTING PROGRAM?
The thing I find most challenging is getting out of my comfort zone around other people. Before this program, I was very shy. I had trouble speaking in front of people, because I was scared I would embarrass myself or say the wrong thing. "This program has taught me to come out of my shell and is constantly teaching me to be more outgoing and how to talk to people more easily."

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THOSE CONTEMPLATING ENROLLING IN THIS PROGRAM?
The advice I would give to future students of this program would be to just go for it! This program requires dedication and commitment, but whatever you put into it is what you will get out of it. If you're hesitating because you don't believe you can succeed in the program, believe in yourself, put in the hard work, and the rest will fall into place. Everyone has to start somewhere, so just go for it!

WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER GOALS AFTER COMPLETING THE PROGRAM?
After completing the program, my goal is to continue my education at SJR State and become a registered nurse. While I work toward my RN goal, I'll be working as a medical assistant.
